15th Quick Photography Contest

Due to preventive measures against the expansion of the coronavirus pandemic adopted by the Canary Islands Government such as prohibiting any event of more than 10 people, we are forced to POSTPONE the celebration of the 15th Quick Photography Contest of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The new dates will be established once the circumstances allow.

As in previous editions, Asociación Zona Mesa y López continues going strong with its firm purpose of promoting recreational and cultural activities for islanders to enjoy and has organised a new edition of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Photo Contest.

Throughout the morning of Saturday, April 4th, the spontaneity, quality, originality and speed of all participants will be put to the test. The contest dynamics will be similar to that of the previous year. Contestants can use any type of digital camera and snap their shots. But there will be alarms going off to gradually reveal throughout the morning the six surprise themes proposed by the organisation.

To make the contest a bit more dynamic, we have established 30-minute time slots for each participant to take photographs of each of the proposed topics. There’s no doubt that it will be a real challenge for the participants. Prize money for this marathon will be 4,850 euros, divided into 15 prizes between the two categories: Junior and Senior. The exhibition and awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 18 on the Mesa y López boulevard (between General Vives and Presidente Alvear streets).

In 2004, the Association bet on creating this photographic activity for Grancanarians, who have given a great response by participating massively in previous editions. That’s why we want to send out a new invitation to all photography lovers and aficionados to participate next Saturday, April 4th, 2020 in the 15th Quick Photography Contest of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. We look forward to welcoming both adult and junior participants.

This Photo Contest has already established itself as a celebration for photography lovers. Any person with a camera can participate in this event. We invite all people (families, friends, colleagues, etc.), both amateurs and professionals, to come to the Mesa y López boulevard and have fun enjoying photography.

The 15th Quick Photography Contest of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is organised by Asociación de Empresarios de Zona Mesa y López and Arte Digital 7 Islas (ad7i). This event is intended for photography fans of all ages and will take place on Saturday, September 19th, 2020.

Registration and fee

Participants can sign up from August 19th to September 18th, by filling out the registration form on the website, and handing it in at the headquarters of Asociación Mesa y López, at C/ Galicia no. 25, 7ºE, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm or by phone at +34 928 29 70 83.

When registering, each participant will be assigned a number that will identify them during the contest and exhibition.

A participation fee of 5 euros is established for adults and 2 euros for participants in the “Junior” category (up to 16 years old included), which will be paid at the time of registration (until September 18th). If the contestant chooses to pay the participation fee on the day of the competition, the price will be 6 euros for adults and 3 euros for juniors.

Contest development

On Saturday, September 19th, 2020, the organisation of the Contest, will set up a stand on the Mesa y López boulevard (between General Vives and Presidente Alvear streets) where participants must show up at 9:30 am to confirm participation, pay the fee if it hasn’t been done already and clarify how the event will develop.

At 10:30, the first proposed theme will be made public at the organisation’s stand and every half hour the next one will be announced. Therefore, participants will have to return to the booth at 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, 12:30 and 1:00 to discover the next themes.


There will be 6 different themes and contestants will have to stick to them to take their photographs. The topics will be announced on the day of the Contest in the following order:

  • First theme: it will be revealed at 10:30 am
  • Second theme: it will be revealed at 11:00 am
  • Third theme: it will be revealed at 11:30 am
  • Fourth theme: it will be revealed at 12:00 pm
  • Fifth theme: it will be revealed at 12:30 pm
  • Sixth theme: it will be revealed at 1:00 pm

* Participants will have to take and present a photo for each theme to qualify for the prizes.

From 1:15 to 3:00 pm, participants should go to the ad7i photographic laboratory located at C/ Nestor de la Torre, 34, where they will hand in their memory card containing only the 6 images that they want to present for the contest (one per topic) and in the same order as the proposed topics, indicating which of the 6 images they want to include in the exhibition of October 3rd, 2020. If the memory card is lost, it will be replaced with a new one, without any claims being made about the lost images. Cards can be withdrawn from September 30th.

Participants must stick to the time frame given to take the photographs of each proposed topic, so once the time limit set for each theme has been exceeded, they will not be able to take any more pictures related to that topic to submit it to the contest. Therefore, the event’s organisation team will consider that of the 6 images presented, the first numbered image will correspond to the first theme, the next to the second and so on.

In cases of special interest, the jury may select more than one photograph of the same author to participate in the exhibition.

Acceptance of Rules

Participation in this contest implies full acceptance of the terms and the decision of the Jury, waiving any legal claim in this regard. The interpretation of these terms and conditions will be carried out by the organisation of the contest. Any situation not provided for in these terms will be resolved by the Jury to guarantee the good realisation of the event, reserving the right to make decisions not reflected in them if the situation requires it.

The organisation will treat the material presented by participants with the maximum care, declining all responsibility in case of any loss or deterioration that the material may suffer due to its handling, display or transfer. The organisation is not responsible for memory cards handed in in bad conditions by contestants.

Since manipulation of the images outside the camera is not allowed, in case of any irregularity in this regard, the person concerned will be disqualified from the contest, without being entitled to a refund of the registration fee.

The organisation is not responsible for loss or personal or material damage occurred to the contestants and/or companions, own or third parties.
The organisation shall ensure compliance with health recommendations at all times, for which it will have the power to make schedules more flexible, dissolve crowds, order the distribution of spaces, require the use of face masks and any other actions it deems appropriate to ensure the safety of both participants and the public.

The organisation declines all responsibility related to possible infections, in cases where the recommended safety advice such as face mask use and social distancing between people have not been applied individually.

Technical Conditions

Participants must:

  • Bring their own digital camera (only one camera per person is allowed).
  • Format the memory card before starting the contest or make sure it does not contain previously taken images.
  • Use JPG image format for photos.
  • Use a minimum size of 2256 x 1496 dpi.
  • Hand in 6 photos as they have been taken, without performing any digital editing.

Exhibition and award ceremony

The exhibition will be made up of photos selected by each participant in addition to those that the jury finds interesting to show. The photographs will be exhibited in size 20 x 30 cm, on the panels that the organisation will install on the Mesa y López boulevard between General Vives and Presidente Alvear streets, on October 3rd from 12:00 to 6:30 pm, for the enjoyment of the authors themselves and the general public.

At 6:00 pm, the jury’s ruling will be made public and the prizes will be awarded at the organisation’s booth. The award-winning photographs will be exhibited in the Ámbito Cultural hall, located on the 6th floor of El Corte Inglés, Avda. Mesa and López no. 18, from November 5th to November 22nd, inclusive.

It is not allowed to remove photos from the stands. If an author has not been awarded and desires so, from December 14th onwards, they may retrieve their printed photo at the Association’s headquarters, at C / Galicia, 25-7E, by calling +34 928 297 083.

Ownership of the works

The photographs awarded and selected for the exhibition will become the property of Asociación Zona Mesa y López, , being able to make use of them for informative and never commercial purposes and always quoting the author. Such images may be used by the organisation for the preparation of an audiovisual montage or for the creation of posters that promote this event. Participants authorise this particular use of their images, without them being able to claim any kind of remuneration.


When assessing the images of the participants, the Jury of the 15th Quick Photography Contest of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will take into account the creativity, originality, spontaneity and capacity of the participants to represent the festive atmosphere of this event, as well as its relationship with the proposed theme.


This contest is endowed with a total amount of 4,650 Euros, spread over 14 money prizes. The amount will be subject to the applicable tax withholdings.
